09.14.08 | Leaves, and that fall smell and excitement are in the air…
As the weather turns colder, and the seasons change I find it especially inspiring to be part of a movement like goBEYOND.
This time of year reminds me of how lucky we are to be in Canada, that my birthday is coming (the 16th), that we have such great farmers markets at this time of year and most of all it reminds me of how much I want it all to stay this way.
There are a lot of things that make it easy to be optimistic about this, and goBEYOND and the Campus Climate Network have probably been the biggest positive-thinking influence for me.
It has been so rewarding to first of all learn about all the amazing projects that are going on throughout the province, and now, as campus organizer, so see the repercussions of that on a more local level.
It is so cool to talk to people who have been waiting to find an organization to get involved with to make a difference. We talk to these people about what we’re doing and what they can do and the excitement is contagious. Especially early on in the year (even though we are at mid-terms, I still feel like its gone by so quickly) people are looking for ways to find their niche and get active.
When people really take ownership of a certain part of the campaign on campus and they start getting excited about it too and thinking outside of the box, that’s when we can really overcome some of the challenges that come up on not just a local, but a global level.
I have been very impressed with the people that have volunteered at TRU so far, and equally impressed by the collective efforts that have been happening all over the province. Its meeting people who are working to do the same thing and putting in as much energy, and knowing that there are many more people just like that all over the province, that makes it nearly impossible to be pessimistic. It makes it second nature to imagine the leaves, fall smell and excitement in the air for many, many seasons to come.

My birthday is on the 16th. I am actually turning 21.
